3. Prediction / Imagination
Prediction looks ahead by estimating what may happen from the information available.
Imagination can go further: it can picture possibilities that have not yet taken shape.
Predictions can guide decisions, but they are not guarantees, and the future is not
limited to the most likely outcome. Human intelligence can use a prediction as a
starting point—and then ask, “What else might be possible?”

AI ≠ HI — Human Intelligence 101
A Visual Exploration of the Difference Between Artificial and Human Intelligence
AI ≠ HI is an ongoing series of original, single-panel cartoons designed to make the differences between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Intelligence (HI) visible, understandable, and worth thinking about.
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly expanding what machines can do. It can process information, recognize patterns, generate images and language, make predictions, and assist in solving complex problems. These capabilities are significant, and their importance will continue to grow.
But capability alone does not tell the whole story of intelligence.
What happens when the information is correct but the judgment is wrong? When the answer fits the question but the question itself needs challenging? When a prediction is mistaken for understanding, a perfect result misses the point, or producing an answer is confused with taking responsibility for its consequences?
These are among the questions explored by AI ≠ HI — Human Intelligence 101.
Making the Difference Visible
Each cartoon presents a simple visual situation in which the behavior of an AI character and a human character reveals a distinction worth considering. Rather than relying on technical explanations or lengthy arguments, the cartoons invite viewers to recognize the difference for themselves.
The subjects include algorithms and heuristics, human judgment, prediction and imagination, perfection and practical wisdom, imitation and originality, context, empathy, critical thinking, responsibility, curiosity, and discovery. These are initial examples, not a fixed or exhaustive list. Many more will follow as the series explores additional dimensions of human intelligence and the changing relationship between people and AI.
The purpose is not to suggest that AI lacks every human-like capability, nor to diminish its remarkable potential. It is to encourage a more discerning understanding of what AI can do, what people contribute, and why the distinction matters.
A Conversation, Not a Contest
AI ≠ HI is not an argument against artificial intelligence. It is an invitation to think more carefully about intelligence itself.
AI can be a powerful tool, collaborator, and resource. Human beings bring their own forms of experience, judgment, imagination, values, relationships, and responsibility to the choices they make with it. Understanding how these contributions differ—and how they can work together—is essential to making thoughtful use of this new technology.
The series uses humor, visual contrast, and a touch of surprise to open that conversation with audiences of different ages and backgrounds. Each cartoon stands on its own, while the growing collection builds a broader picture of Human Intelligence 101.
The objective is simple: help people see what might otherwise go unnoticed, ask questions they might otherwise overlook, and recognize the human contribution in an increasingly AI-enabled world.
AI is changing what is possible. Understanding Human Intelligence helps us decide what to do with those possibilities.
